To support the teaching of number formation in Reception, we use the exciting and colourful resources from Ten Town. We also provide all Reception children with free access to Ten Town to use at home. This is a website that provides videos, activities, songs, stories and games. Each number has a character and a rhyme that explains how to form that number. This has really helped our children form their numbers correctly. Number formation is especially important in Reception because it is much harder for children to change how they form their numbers later on, if they have acquired an incorrect habit.

Clearly formed numbers are essential to progress in maths.
